Sirens
glazed ceramic, metal, tubes, water pump, sound
120 x 100 x 100 and 70 x 90 x 150 cm
2024

Sirens is an installation that explores the interplay between of femininity, nourishment, and the cyclical nature of life, while probing the boundaries between the maternal and the monstrous. The work features two ceramic fountains, each composed by numerous breasts from which water flows. This exaggerated forms blur the line between the comforting and the grotesque, the familiar and the alien. Accompanied by a meditative auditory element, the installation invites reflection on themes of care, growth and indipendece, while its mechanical components introduce a dystopian unease.
The work challenges preconceived notions of femininity and care intertwining the monstruos and the maternal into a thought-provoking dialogue.

E noi sull’illusione glazed ceramic, iron, pvc, wood, eggshells300 x 400 x 210 cm2021

E noi sull’illusione is an installation where four sculptures are suspended in an optical illusion. The space of the installation is defined by a wallpaper that emulates the grid of pixels, which encodes the void in graphics software such as Photoshop. The sculptures display the extremities of a human body, primarily hands feet and ears, held together by iron rods, articulated to create precarious and distorted anthropomorphic forms. The optical illusion created by the grid on the backdrop induces a sense of suspension, loss of references, translating into spatiality the feeling of loss of horizon.

Hard Work

translucent silicon, steelvarious dimension
2022

Hard Work is a series of sculptures, silicone rubber casts of common objects for man-ual work: hammers, saws, spanners, screwdrivers. The sculptres, dysfunctional, flabby and surreal, become useless objects for the pur-poses that their form still recalls and implies. Calori’s works are amusing and snarky, while also condensing the conflictual and fet-ishist tensions that are typical of surrealist objects. The material chosen for this series of works, the colour and unfunctional qualitycan be read through psychoanalytic theories: they convey a frustration of sorts due to the lack of fulfil-mentof desire. And yet an unequivocal element of parody is expressed with regards to these possible interpretations: the artworks of the Hard Work series exposethe underlying male chauvinism within classical psychoanalytic thought, within those talks about desire, fetish and sexuality that have been focused since the beginning on the male experience and its procedures of knowledge. Hard Work reflects on the relationship between the material and artistic object and the capitalist economic system within the field of art, as well as questioning the expressive methods of the sculptural language through the ‘tools of the trade’ them-selves, so as to suggest alternative forms of vision and production.

The sculpture is composed of ceramic anatomical parts held together by an iron rod from construction work materials. The ceramic, imitating the color of the body also determines its fragility, which contrasts with the iron structure that supports it. The sculpture draws a line of movement, a leap, a flight while forcing the feet to stay together and steady. The sculpture evokes a body constrained within an architectural space, suggesting the various ways in which the built environment can be both support and constraint for the human body and mind.

m portrays the moment when mass and energy coincide, it gives shape to the energy released at the time of the jump, and the fear of jumping at the very moment it is won over. The sculptures are the materialisation of the empty space that is created between the sole of the foot and the ground at the moment of pushing off. This space is energy. It is no coincidence that the sculptures are in blown glass, as if the breath held to take the leap was transferred inside of the glass, and preserved there.
